Week 41 and the theme's Black & White! I'm a big fan of B & W images, even though I have very few on my site. There's a feeling of "eternity" in monochrome photos that color simply never seems to capture. Or is that just me?

For this week's theme, I figured it'd be quite easy to take random photos and simply click a button to transform them into black and white and call it a day. Hence, I tried to go beyond that. I did some research earlier this week on B&W photography and stumbled across some amazing images. As always, I wanted to keep my concept simple but memorable. So I thought... why not write something on hands to substitute for speech? Thereafter, it was a struggle to pick a quote/phrase that was inspiring and powerful at the same time. Eventually, I settled on the phrase "You are beautiful no matter what they say." If it doesn't jog your memory, it's from "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera.

I had my sister volunteer her hands for the shoot. I sketched the phrase with black eyeliner and then redid the sketch with a black Sharpie. I had my sister sit infront of a black backdrop with a light focused directly unto her palms. Using an external flash aimed at the ceiling, I began my shoot. Within 20 frames, I had my photo! Of course I did a few more takes, but after processing I decided to use one of the earlier takes.

Well there you have it. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts ...
