Photo Project: Week 18

May 25, 2013

Again, it was a crazy week. This was a photo that was caught between my contemplations of whether to suspend my photo blog for a few months until I take the Bar or whether to try and dedicate some time out of my already crazy study schedule to go through with this project. Obviously, I decided to move ahead with this week's photo. However, I'm not over my contemplations...

For this week's photo, I drew inspiration from a Fb group, Fifty-two Frames. Their theme for this week was "On the Job." Ever since Wednesday, I was trying to figure out how to convey this theme without being overly obvious. Yesterday, I took my camera to Manhattan in hopes of getting a shot. However, thanks to the lovely weather and me being caught in rush hour, both to and from the city, my shoot just didn't happen. I was a bit deflated, as I had some interesting ideas I wanted to try. For example, taking a shot of a mother and child because parenting is a full-time job after all. Or, a shot of students reading/studying because even being a student is considered an occupation.

Last night, I finally got my photo opportunity when I took a trip to Staples to get some stationary supplies. Before the cashier checked my items out, I asked whether I could take her photo for my weekly blog. She was nice enough to oblige my request. So I took several photos from different angles while she was processing my order. I didn't get around to editing my takes until this morning. It was pretty difficult to crop and edit this shot to my liking, because I didn't want my Week 18 to just be a random shot of some employee in some store. Hence, I decided to experiment with Lightroom to add some contrast to the shot so that the Cashier was the center focus of the photo.

Maybe if I was better at editing, then the contrast would "pop" more. However, I do like the overall appearance of the photo. That is, the color contrast, the positioning of the subject and how the shot captures a moment out of the subject's work day/life. Hopefully, I'll be able to produce something better for next week's photo, or maybe that will be the deciding week where I throw in the towel for a few weeks?
