Photo Project: Week 17

Ah... Week 17! This was truly a last minute effort because I've been so busy with my last exam, graduation and my family who are visiting for the week. This photo was actually taken just a few hours ago when I was playing tour guide with my visitors. After revisiting the photos as they loaded on my computer, I knew that this was the perfect photo for my Week 17 because it symbolized one of the themes I've been meaning to execute for some time. That is, "Life."

This past week, I graduated from law school with my Juris Doctorate. I couldn't have been any happier knowing that school was ALMOST over. I say "almost" because I still have bar prep before I take the bar exam in July. Nevertheless, I couldn't help but feel truly exhilarated when I walked across the stage and shook hands with Professors who will forever be embedded in my memories as a student. It was as though I got a new lease on life after I crossed that stage. As if, I completed one stage in life and moving on to another. And that's exactly what this photo reminds me of... that is, looking out there at the world and thinking, "if I put my mind, soul and body into this, then the world can truly be my oyster."

The subject in this week's photo is my sister. We were visiting the Old Mill Ruins in Minneapolis, MN when I took this shot. This particular framing was only possible via the balcony of the Gutherie Theatre. As she looks out towards the Mississippi River and the Stone Arch Bridge, I can't help but wonder what was going through her mind. I thought it best not to intrude on her moment. But as I stood there, I couldn't help but smile at my own thoughts. That is, the bridge is symbolic of the journeys that we make ever so often, and the river reminds me of having to withstand the test of time. That is, to never give up when things get tough. Or as my aunt said today, "evaluate, reassess, brush it off, and keep going."

Before I turn this into a personal journal, I should leave you simply with one of my favorite quotes by Oscar Wilde: "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” As I've learnt in these past three years, don't let what you do consume your life... just live and let live and you'll find that everything else around you just got a bit brighter & promising :)
