Week 36 and it's quite obvious what this week's theme is: Shadows! Guess what? My photo made it as the top photo for the Shadow theme on Fifty-two Frames! So without further adieu, here's the lucky photo.

At the beginning of this week,

I wasn't sure what my photo would be. I did take a few shots outside in the snow, but wasn't quite satisfied with the results. Eventually, I resorted to doing some research for added inspiration. I saw quite a few ideas I wanted to recreate, but ultimately decided on doing something simple. I saw this lovely photo of shadows created from a pencil holder. Hence, I got my pencil holder and tried to imitate what I saw. However, even with four candles, the shadows were very dull. Thus, I experimented with different light sources ranging from an external flash, a flashlight and a cell phone camera flashlight. I had my sister hold her phone directly above the pencil holder while I took shots from different angles. Here's a sample of what the initial photos were like.

I was impressed by the first set of takes, however I felt as though the shadows were not as defined as they could be. Thereafter, we tried experimenting with different objects and got this.
Again, the image was good. But it wasn't quite what I had in mind for a shadow theme. So we tried again with the pencil holder and the cell phone light. It wasn't until after my sister got tired and simply rested her phone horizontally across the pencil holder top that we got the shot I selected for this week's submission to Fifty two Frames. Even in RAW, I knew it would be a front-runner for the photo of the week from Fifty-two Frames. And what do you know? It was! I guess it was the dimensions of the photo that made it exceptional? The movement of the cloth below the pencil enabled the shadows to look almost textured into the fabric. Don't ya think?
Well there you have it. I can't wait to hear your comments/critique. Oh my... can you believe we're just two weeks away from a New Year? And I'm only at Week 36! Ah well.... more time to think of a new theme for next year I guess :)
