Sometime last month, I came across this intriguing photo of a girl and a flower.
I thought the photo was pretty puzzling, as it conveyed a whole host of emotions. But, at the same time, I didn't particularly like the positioning of the flower as I thought it's beauty had gotten lost against the girl's white dress.
Nevertheless, I thought the concept was lovely.. and so I decided to do something similar, but with a twist. Additionally, since I'm constantly bouncing around theme ideas... I thought I'd have my Week 9 photo be about "framing."
I took to my local flower shop in search of white roses/flowers. Eventually, I settled on a white lily with a few buds and a super long stem. As soon as I got home, I prepped my black-cloth backdrop and also changed into something black. At this point, I wasn't quite sure what the background would've been... hence why I over-compensated with a black backdrop and black clothing:)
The first few shots looked something like this.
The photo looked okay, but after some inspection, I wasn't completely "won over" by this angle... so I switched angles and took some more shots.
Since I was bothered by the lack of attention that the flower got from my inspirational image, I thought my re-interpretation ought to give the flower the space that it deserved.
Hence, my shot centered more on the flower, with myself as the backdrop, rather than the black cloth that I earlier referenced. And so, my photo came out looking like this...

I really loved this shot because of how the flower's stigma became the center of attention. Also, how cute is that little bud that looks like a parrot snake staring into the camera? I know that there are some photographers who absolutely detest when portions of a subject are cut out by a frame, but I actually think some non-whole subject shots give the subject more depth and intrigue. That said, I should note that this photo wasn't cropped at all. This was the actual image that was taken (with a few tweaks for vibrance and sharpness).
And so... the theme for this week's photo is "Fragile." I thought it was a particularly fitting theme since it reminds me of the girl from my inspirational photo, while highlighting the tenderness of a lily flower.
Oh yeah... and that's my new logo:)
